Fort Yuma Quechan Indian Tribe recall vote fails – again

YUMA, Ariz. — The results of a Native American tribe’s second recall vote in southwestern Arizona have been tossed out.

The Yuma Sun reports the Fort Yuma Quechan Indian Tribe held its second Tribal Council recall election in less than a month on Jan. 17 but a majority of registered voters did not show up.

That means the results favoring the ousting of three of the four council members, including President Keeney Escalanti, did not count.

The recall elections stemmed from petitions circulated by tribal member Sally DeCorse, who said she was unconstitutionally passed over for a council position.
